In roulette, you have to place bets on the number on the wheel you think the ball will end up on.
The game starts with all players making their bets and then the croupier spins the wheel to get the winning number. Special chips are used to place bets, with different colors identifying different players.
Outside bets
A roulette board contains the numbers 1 to 36, along with 0 and 00 on an inner circle. Outside bets are made on the area on the edge of the table. This type of bet can be made on things like a group of numbers. Here are some examples of outside bets:
*Dozens - Placing a bet on any of the three sets of 12 numbers, paying two to one.
*Columns - Wagering on the 12 numbers in any of the three columns on the layout. You win if the ball falls on any of these numbers. This pays two to one.
*Low / High - A bet that the number will be in the lower numbers category, which is between one and 18, or the high numbers, between 19 and 31. Pays even money.
*Red / Black - This bet pays even money and involves betting the ball will fall on a number of that color.
*Odd / Even - This method also pays even money. It is a bet that the winning number will be odd or even.
Inside bets
These bets are placed on certain numbers or combinations within the number layout.
*Five-number bet - With the five-number bet, you can only bet on one set - 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Your chip should be placed at the corner of the intersection of 0, 1 and the first dozen. This pays six to one.
*Line bet - A bet on six adjoining numbers covering two rows. At the intersection of these rows, put your chips on one of the outside. Pays five to one.
*Street bet - A wager covering three numbers in a row and pays 11 to one. You need to put your chip on the outside line of the row you want to bet on.
*Corner bet - This is a bet on four adjoining numbers that make a square. If you want to bet like this, you should put your chips in the middle of the four numbers. Pays eight to one.
*Straight-up bet - A bet placed on an individual number. This method is a difficult one and pays 35 to one.
*Split bet - This method involves betting on two adjoining numbers. Make your bet by putting the chips on the line between the two numbers. This pays 17 to one.
